ICA Workshop on Ubiquitous Mapping in Tokyo and Kesennuma from July 28 to 31, 2012

Call for Participants

The workshop is composed of two parts. The first part will be held on one day, that is, July 28, 2012 at the University of Tokyo. The part focuses on exchanging ideas through aural presentations of research and planning for activity of ICA Commission of Ubiquitous Mapping. The second part, that is main part, will be held on three days from July 29 to 31 in Kesennuma City which is famous as beautiful ria coast and was destroyed in part by Tsunami on March 11th, 2011. The second part of the workshop focuses on discovering situation of places and people damaged by Tsunami last year through technical visits, on learning maps, photos, videos and other materials as records of the disaster and plans of reconstruction, and on discussing capability of cartography for the future of damaged local community with collaboration of staff of the local government. The distance between Kesennuma City and Fukushima Nuclear plants is more than 160km. The distance from Tokyo to Fukushima Nuclear plants is about 200km. You need not be worry about the effect from Nuclear plants' accident. The distance from Tokyo to Kesennuma City is about 380km.

The participant fee of the first part on July 28 is free. The fee for the second part from July 29 to 31 is fifty thousand yen (about EUR five hundred) for one person including a round trip from Tokyo to Kisennuma, renting cars, hotel and meals.

The deadline of registration to the second part is the 30th of June.

The number of participants are limited because of capacity of facility. You can ask any question to the office of ubimap through the following email address.

If you want to join the workshop, please fill in the following fields and send them to the above email address by June 30th, 2012. If the number of participants becomes over the limit of capacity, that is 14, it may happen we cannot accept new registration forms even before the deadline. We recommend you send the registration forms to the office soon.
