PURPOSE

Taking the advantages of the information technologies, maps have become widely used in daily life as services with high functionality and ubiquity in the Internet and mobile environments. However, we are still facing to the emergency of developing evolutionary theories of Cartography to advance the diversity of the discipline with the times and new trends, while inheriting its fine traditions from various map cultures. This joint workshop TEC2015 is organized by Center for Spatial Information Science of the University of Tokyo, the ICA commissions on Theoretical Cartography and Ubiquitous Mapping, and will be held right before the 27th International Cartographic Conference and 16th General Assembly of ICA (ICC2015) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It will be a good opportunity to rethink of the concepts of maps, mapping and Cartography with global perspectives from theoretical, pragmatic and technical viewpoints. The participants are welcomed to give oral presentations on their latest research results or works in progress. We will also have free discussions to share our ideas of the future developments of technologies, disciplines and the commissions.
